HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) — Karl Cochran scored 27 points, tying a career-high by making six 3-pointers, and Wofford topped Samford 71-61 in the Southern Conference opener for both teams Thursday night.
Trailing 54-46 after Tim Williams hit a jumper with just less than 11 minutes left, Wofford went on a 23-6 run over the next 10:12 of action to take a 69-59 lead with 28 seconds remaining. Cochran scored 11 points during that stretch.
Wofford (6-7) made 11 of 21 3-point shots while out-rebounding the Bulldogs 32-22. The Terriers recorded 19 assists on 24 field goals and turned 12 Samford turnovers in to 15 points.
Eric Garcia added 14 points, including a career-high tying four 3-pointers, in the win.
Tyler Hood led Samford (6-10) with 22 points. Williams added 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Hood and Williams combined to make 16 of 21 field goals.
