LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Tony Wroblicky scored a career-high 24 points as American U defeated Bucknell 67-58 to open Patriot League play on Thursday night.

The Eagles (5-7, 1-0) secured their fourth-straight league opener after opening the game on a 7-0 run, and led by as many as 17 points. Wroblicky finished with 11 rebounds, and John Schoof and Darius Gardner each added 11 points.

Bucknell took off on a 12-0 run to cut its deficit to five (47-42) with 6:30 to play. American U pulled ahead again by eight, but Bucknell refused to go away with two straight 3’s to close within four points. Consistent free-throw shooting by the Eagles –six straight in the remaining minutes — gave American U enough of a lead to walk away with the victory.

Chris Hass scored 18 for Bucknell (5-7, 0-1) and Cameron Ayers added 17 as the Bison lost their third straight.
