Every March, the University of Dayton hosts the NCAA’s First Four, four games over two days which open the annual 68-team extravaganza.

What would happen if one of those eight teams was the host Flyers?

“We don’t have a backup facility that we would go to,” said NCAA selection committee chair Ron Wellman. “So that would be the case.”

For his part, Flyers coach Archie Miller says his team is willing to travel the half mile to its own arena or even to Russia — as long as it’s in the field.

When the governing body of soccer wants something done, do it. Just don’t ask for its money to help you get it done.

The World Cup host city of Recife is scrambling to find private partners to organize the FIFA-required fanfest during the tournament.

The Brazilian city has said the event could be canceled if FIFA or other sponsors didn’t step in financially.

So naturally, instead of trying to find a solution or open its own pockets, FIFA threaten to sue for possible breach of contract.

Almost like an own goal.

Jesus Montero, once thought to be a key building block of the future Mariners, reported to training camp 40 pounds over the weight management wanted.

He admitted it, when he said “after winter ball, all I did was eat.”Said general manager Jack Zduriencik: “I have zero expectations for Jesus Montero. Any expectations I had are gone.”

Montero’s take on his weight: “I feel comfortable with my weight. But they want me to lose some weight. Whatever they want. I’m here for the opportunity.”
