Battle Ground police have referred the case of a 12-year-old boy who allegedly brought a folding knife to Chief Umtuch Middle School on Feb. 11 to Clark County Juvenile Court.
Police recommended a gross misdemeanor charge of display of a weapon, which warranted alarm for the safety of other persons, said city of Battle Ground spokeswoman Bonnie Gilberti.
Juvenile Court received the referral Wednesday, said Tim Oberheide, Juvenile Court manager of intake, deferred disposition and diagnostic.
Oberheide said juvenile misdemeanor crimes for first-time offenders are typically referred to the court’s diversion program, which is a confidential process. As a result, he said he can’t confirm or deny whether the boy has been referred to the diversion program. The boy has no criminal record, he said.
