SPOKANE — The Spokane City Council has dropped its opposition to a casino planned by the Spokane Tribe near Fairchild Air Force Base.
The council switched its position Monday to neutral — neither for nor against.
Two years ago the council voted to oppose the project because some officials feared it would adversely affect the air base and make it a target for closure.
The Spokesman-Review reports the Air Force position on the casino also is neutral.
The casino still needs federal approval and the consent of the Washington governor.
