Ashley Lodmell, a sophomore at Evergreen High School, has qualified for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Western Region Under-16 Skiing Championships, which take place March 18-23 at Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Lodmell, 15, is one of 19 girls who will represent the Pacific Northwest Ski Association at the Western Region competition in the 14-15 age group. She currently ranks sixth among girls in PNSA points.
On Saturday and Sunday, Lodmell finished the PNSA season by winning the women’s combined championship for her results in the super-G and the downhill events at the 51st annual Sun Cup on Mount Bachelor.
She placed second and fifth in the downhill races.
One week earlier, she placed in fifth slalom and seventh in giant slalom races held at Mount Hood Ski Bowl. At super-G races at Mount Bachelor, she placed fifth and won the final qualifying event.
On Feb. 20, Lodmell was featured in a KATU television news story about how aspiring Olympic skiers get their start.
Equestrians win at high school meet
The Prairie High School Equestrian Team had winners in seven events, and the Vancouver United Equestrian Team had two first-place results during the second meet of the season, which took place Friday through Sunday in Spanaway.
Both teams compete in District 4 of Washington High School Equestrian Teams.
The Prairie drill team, consisting of 14 riders doing synchronized maneuvers on horseback, took first place.
For the second meet in a row, Prairie’s Casey Kampe took first place in breakaway roping, and teamed with Emily Bozarth to win bi-rangle.
Other first-place finishes for Prairie were Alivia Stone in trail and in stock seat, Kylie Vroman and Devon LoBato in working pairs, and the in-hand obstacle relay team of Kiauna Johnson, Paige Rinta, Alivia Stone and Jacob Stone.
For Vancouver United, Hannah McDonald won in working rancher and Shelby Lee took first place in dressage.

Portland runners win Hazel Dell Half titles
Jonathan Sipling and Amelia Slagle of Portland finished first and second in Sunday’s Hazel Dell Half Marathon.
Sipling, 36, completed the 13.1-mile run in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 9 seconds.
Slagle, 28, won the women’s race with a time of 1:21:41. She was almost three minutes ahead of third-place finisher Jeffrey Alberghini, whose time was 1:24:24.
A total of 123 runners and walkers completed the fifth annual half marathon. Another 112 completed the 8-kilometer race, which was won by Daniel Campos with a time of 31 minutes, 33 seconds. Campos, 40, was almost two minutes faster than runner-up Nicholas Siewart.
Antonia Swan, 32, was the first woman to finish the 8-K run. She covered the 4.97 miles in 37:42.
The races started and finished at the Hazel Dell Towne Center shopping complex. The event raised money for Panda Paws Animal Rescue.
NBA guard Curry to visit clinic in Camas
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is scheduled to make a guest appearance at a March 15-16 basketball camp at Liberty Middle School in Camas.
The Dream Team Camp is for girls and boys ages 5-18. Cost is $95, which includes lunch each day. The camp, which runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, will focus on fundamentals.

Jury said he does not yet know exactly what time Curry will attend the camp. The Warriors visit the Trail Blazers on March 16.
Fort Vancouver Run slated for Sunday
The Fort Vancouver Run, which takes place on Sunday, offers three distances for runners to choose among. The event includes a 15-kilometer run, a 10K walk or run, and a 6K run.
All of the races start and finish at the Fred Meyer Grand Central Shopping Center, 2500 Columbia House Blvd., in Vancouver.
The 15K starts at 7:45 a.m. The other two races start at 8:20 a.m.
Advance registration is closed. Registration on race day begins at 7 a.m. and costs $50 for the 15K and $45 for the other two distances. Another opportunity to register is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Fit Right running store at 16020 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Suite 113.

State gymnastics meet slated for March 15-16
The Washington boys gymnastics state meet will be held March 15-16 at the Clark County Event Center.
Hosted by the Vancouver Elite Gymnastics Academy, the meet features boys from Level 4 through elite gymnasts. Top gymnasts advance to regional competition.
The best gymnasts, levels 8-10 and Junior Olympics contenders, compete at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The meet schedule starts with Level 5 competition at 8:30 a.m. on March 15. Level 6-7 gymnasts compete at 1 p.m. on March 15.
The March 16 sessions feature Level 4 gymnasts and begin at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Admission costs $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-17. It costs $6 to park at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
Free kids ice hockey clinic on Saturday
A free ice hockey clinic for boys and girls ages 4-9 will be held at 8:40 a.m. on Saturday at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver.
