Camas High School is hosting an informational session at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the north commons for a new program beginning in the 2014-15 school year.

Integrated arts and academics is a new program starting with ninth-grade students in the fall.

The purpose is to meet the academic needs of students whose learning style is best served by an arts-integrated curriculum centered on standards and arts based projects, and to provide students with varied experiences.

Students will be in a scheduled “block” consisting of three class periods that fulfill their academic requirements for ninth-grade in pre-advanced placement English, physical science and fine arts (visual and performing).

According to organizers, class work will emphasize shared concepts and themes among these subjects, as well as address Common Core Standards, and students will have plenty of opportunities to use their hands and be creative.

The IAA program is designed for students who have a keen interest in combining classroom learning with the visual and performing arts.

Students do not need to audition, present a portfolio or have highly-developed talent in order to enroll.
