Vancouver-based Christensen Shipyards reported Friday that it secured a $36 million contract for the construction of a 164-foot custom yacht.
The ship, which Christensen expects to deliver in August 2016, features a fold-out balcony and swim deck extension. The yacht’s interior will have six cabins: an owner’s cabin, a cabin for VIPs and four guest cabins with space for 12 guests.
The contract brings to 10 the number of yacht projects at the shipyard. The company also is working with Oregon Iron Works on an unmanned vessel for the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Science Applications International Corp. Christensen employs 380 full-time workers, and expects to hire another 100 employees through 2016.
