Gusty winds knock out power to thousands in county

More than 3,150 Clark Public Utilities customers lost electricity today as the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Clark County.

The wind advisory remained in effect until 4 a.m. Monday, warning of increasing south winds with gusts of 35 to 45 mph. The weather service told residents in Clark County to prepare for power outages and minor property damage.

According to information on the Clark Public Utilities’ online power outage map, electricity was lost in at least five areas of Clark County this evening. Nearly 400 customers lost power near Woodland, about 230 went dark near La Center, two lost power in the Battle Ground area after a tree fell on power lines, 132 lost electricity in Hazel Dell, and more than 1,500 customers lost power in Vancouver near state Highway 500 and N.E. St. Johns Road.

Another 850 homes lost power near 39th and Main streets in Vancouver.
