A wanted man who was spotted in Yacolt last week was arrested Monday morning more than 250 miles to the north. Kody D. Olsen, 35, was tracked to Lynden by officers with the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Task Force, a branch of the U.S. Marshals Service, days after making an appearance in Clark County.
Thursday morning, he was found on private property in the Fargher Lake area with a stolen RV and pickup.
He fled the area on foot after being discovered by local residents, launching a search effort led by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. A reverse 911 call advised residents of the area to stay indoors and call 911 if they spotted him.
The stolen pickup was stuck in the woods and had to be pulled out using a bulldozer.
The search effort was scaled back after deputies came up empty-handed on Thursday.
Somehow, Olsen drove to Lynden or got a ride there, said U.S. Marshals Detective Ray Fleck, who supervises the fugitive task force.
The U.S. Marshals Service, with help from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Lynden Police Department, captured Olsen in Lynden around 9:45 a.m.
When officers attempted to arrest him, he struggled and tried to run, Fleck said, adding that Olsen was armed at the time of his arrest.
Olsen was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and stolen property, and resisting arrest, Fleck said.
He will later be extradited to Seattle on federal probation violation charges.
