Timbers beat Indy Eleven in preseason match

Playing a lineup of reserves and players who are competing for roster spots, the Portland Timbers on Wednesday beat the Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League 1-0 in Tucson, Ariz.

Midfielder Ben Zemanski scored the goal in the 75th minute, bending a free kick from 25 yards into the goal. Jake Gleeson made a pair of diving stops in goal to highlight the Timbers third consecutive shutout.

The Timbers recorded two wins and two draws during their two weeks in Tucson.

The team returns to Portland on Thursday. The Timbers next play at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23, taking on the San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park to open their Rose City Invitational set of preseason matches.
