A former Vancouver man’s impulsive $1 gamble on New Year’s Eve became $1 million a month later when he learned he’d won the lottery.
The Mega Millions winner from Portland, who asked Washington’s Lottery officials to not release his name, bought his winning ticket while shopping for groceries on Dec. 31 at Fred Meyer, 7411 N.E. 117th Ave. But he didn’t realize he’d won until Jan. 28 when his mom checked the forgotten ticket for him, according to a press release. She called him to share the good news.
He matched five numbers, which has an odds of one in 18.5 million. The man said he plays the lottery often, but has never won more than $5.
He said he’d like to use his newfound wealth to start a bike shop business, build a bike park and travel the world.
