Boy with knife detained at B.G. middle school

A student was detained Tuesday at Chief Umtuch Middle School after he brought a folding knife to school grounds, according to officials with the city of Battle Ground.

A school bus driver at the Battle Ground school, 700 N.W. Ninth St., noticed the student had the knife and reported it about 2:45 p.m. When Battle Ground police arrived, they found school staff had detained the student, a 12-year-old boy.

“The initial investigation indicates the student did not brandish the knife in a threatening manner,” according to a city of Battle Ground news release.

Battle Ground police took the boy into custody and alerted his parents. After finishing their investigation, police will forward any charges to Clark County Juvenile Court.
