A health care provider and a stadium might just be a perfect pair for the Rose City.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Providence Health and Services took its relationship with The Portland Timbers to the next level. The stadium formerly known as Jeld-Wen Field will be known as Providence Park under a 15-year marriage unveiled Monday.
This comes on the heels of Moda Health taking over the naming rights to the Trail Blazers’ home arena.
What’s next? Could the Memorial Coliseum soon be renamed the Kaiser Cube?

OK. History lesson for the stadium next to the Multnomah Athletic Club.
When the stadium was built around Multnomah Field in 1926, it was named Multnomah Stadium. That lasted 40 years.
Then the stadium was sold to the city and named Civic Stadium. That lasted 35 years.
Then the stadium was refurbished and named PGE Park. That lasted 10 years.
Another face lift, and it became Jeld-Wen Field. That last three years.
Now, it’s Providence Park. How long will that last? Who knows? But it’s trending on the short side.

The controversy over the Washington Redskins’ name isn’t taking an offseason break.
A letter sent Monday from Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., tells NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that the league is on “the wrong side of history” regarding the Redskins moniker and mention’s the league’s anti-trust status. Cantwell chairs the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.
Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie responded: “With all the important issues Congress has to deal with …. don’t they have more important issues to worry about than a football team’s name?”
