La Center — Spot and his owner Laura Stutts, from La Center, returned home in late January as champions from the Dachshund Club of America’s National Field Trials in Vacaville, Calif.

Spot won multiple field trials in his class at the competition and picked up a handful of honors, including a special plaque and two blue ribbons.

Stutts said the dry weather made it difficult for the dogs to sniff out rabbits in the trials. “No jackrabbits were harmed,” she said. “We just bump them from their hiding places in the brush and follow the tracks they make.”
