Thorns announce 2014 schedule

Season opens April 12

Portland Thorns FC will open the second National Women’s Soccer League season on April 12 at Houston.

Their first home game at Jeld-Wen Field is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, against FC Kansas City.

The Thorns will play 12 home matches and 12 away games. Seattle, Kansas City, Sky Blue FC and Western New York visit Portland twice. The Thorns will play Boston, Chicago, Houston and Washington twice on the road.

The top four teams in the nine-team league advance to the playoffs after the regular season concludes on Aug. 17.

The home schedule features two rematches of last season’s NWSL championship game which saw the Thorns defeat the Western New York Flash 2-0. Western New York visits Jeld-Wen Field on May 21 and on June 7. The Thorns will play a home game at 11 a.m. on July 4 against Chicago.

The Thorns are scheduled to open training camp on March 10 under new coach Paul Riley.
