Too early to fish for spring chinook salmon?

Well, on Saturday, Oregon’s flight of the lower Columbia counted 20 boats and almost 100 bank rods.

Reports with photographs were circulating online on Wednesday of a pair of spring chinook apparently caught in Multnomah Channel of the Willamette River.

Sturgeon fishing was slow in Bonneville pool on Saturday and Sunday. Weather conditions likely will nix much fishing this weekend.

Battle Ground Lake has been planted with 1,250 trout, while Klineline Pond received 1,000.

Angler checks from the Washington (WDFW) and Oregon (ODFW) departments of Fish and Wildlife:

Mid-Columbia — Bonneville pool, 41 boaters with four legal sturgeon kept plus one oversize and 151 sublegals released; 71 bank rods with one oversize and 36 sublegals released; four boaters with no walleye. (WDFW)

The Dalles pool, six boaters with no sturgeon; 12 bank rods with two sublegal sturgeon released; nine boaters with three hatchery steelhead kept and four wild steelhead released; four bank rods with two wild steelhead released; six boaters with no walleye; one bank rod with one walleye. (WDFW)

John Day pool, 28 boaters with two legal sturgeon kept plus four sublegals released; 15 bank rods with no sturgeon. (WDFW)

Cowlitz — Twenty-seven bank rods with four hatchery winter steelhead. All the catch was near Cowlitz Trout Hatchery. (WDFW)

Washougal — Forty-two bank rods with one hatchery steelhead kept and four wild steelhead released; 22 boaters with four hatchery steelhead kept plus two hatchery and 10 wild steelhead released. (WDFW)
