A team with eight players from Clark County took second place in its division at the King Cup 2014 soccer tournament in Las Vegas.
The Northwest Masters lost 3-0 to Real Marin from the San Francisco area in the championship match for the men’s over-48 competitive tournament.
The tournament was played Jan. 18-20. It drew more than 200 teams to play in recreational or competitive divisions, with age groups running from 35 to 60.
After winning two of three games to finish first in its group, Northwest Masters beat San Jose Tigers SC 2-1 in the semifinals.
This is the 16th year that Michael Hajari of Camas and Saeed Hajarizadeh of Vancouver have taken a team to the tournament. Their teams won their division championships in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2013.
This year’s team included Vancouver residents Mujo Deronjic, Milorad Jelic, Jeff Guilliford, Damir Broncovic, Predrag Kamenko and Leo Ruiz. The team had players from Portland, Lake Oswego, Las Vegas and Lancaster, Calif.
Prairie equestrians shine
The Prairie High School equestrian team had several event winners at the its first meet of the season. The first Washington High School Equestrian Teams District 4 meet was held Jan. 24-26 in Spanaway.
Junior Casey Kampe finished first in breakaway roping and sophomore Kylie Vroman finished first in over fences. Kampe and Vroman were state champions in those events in 2013.
Other first-place finishes for Prairie included Paige Rinta in stock seat, Emily Bozarth and Kampe in birangle, Rinta and Olivia Stone in working pairs, and Lacey Ailshie in steer daubing.

3-on-3 hoops event returns
The Hoops on the River three-on-three basketball tournament will be held Aug. 15-17 at Esther Short Park in Vancouver.
One Team Kids Foundation will stage the event. The tournament was held annually between 2005 and 2012, but was not held in 2013.
There will be divisions for players as young first grade, and a variety of adult divisions. Entry fees will be waived for wheelchair and Special Olympic teams.

Spring soccer signups
Registration is open online for spring recreational youth soccer programs in Vancouver, Camas and Washougal. Vancouver United and Camas-Washougal Soccer will have a recreational season beginning April 19 and running through mid-June.

For advanced competition teams, most of the tryouts for the 2014-15 season will be held in April and May. Tryouts for boys in the under-16 to under-18 age groups will take place March 1-2.
Youth lacrosse clinic
Vancouver Youth Lacrosse will hold a free clinic for new players to try lacrosse from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday at Luke Jensen Sports Park. To register, or to learn more, visit www.vancouveryouthlacrosse.com.
Vancouver Youth Lacrosse offers programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Another chance to learn about lacrosse and to register for its spring season will be held 5-9 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Burgerville at 9909 N.E. Highway 99.
Columbia LL signups continue
Columbia Little League will hold registration at David Douglas Park from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 8. This is also a time to register for the Columbia Girls Softball League, which is open to players in the boundaries for Central Vancouver, Fort Vancouver and Columbia Little Leagues.
Most Little Leagues have concluded in-person registration for the spring season.
