Washington jumped to sixth place as a magnet state for out-of-state newcomers in this year’s annual “magnet states report” by Allied Van Lines.

The company said it moved 2,549 households to Washington, while moving another 2,081 households outside the state. The net increase of 468 inbound moves placed Washington in sixth place as a magnet state, behind Texas, Florida, Arizona, South Carolina and Colorado.

Washington recorded one of the largest jumps in this year’s survey. In 2013, it ranked as the 19th-highest outbound state. Oregon dropped during the same one-year period from the fourth-highest inbound state to seventh-highest, with a net of 385 inbound moves.

California moved into 15th place as a magnet state, with a net gain of 100 households. In 2013, it was the seventh-highest outbound state. Texas was the top draw for the 10th consecutive year, attracting a net of 1,973 new households. Illinois recorded the highest outbound total, with a loss of 1,372 households.
