Central Park — Wanted: local corporations and community groups to save Water Works Park.

Quite a few people have come forward to express concern about the park, at Fort Vancouver Way and East Fourth Plain Boulevard, since The Columbian ran a story in November about crime and blight there.

The Central Park Activities Committee, made up of people from the Central Park, Maplewood, Rose Village and Fourth Plain Village neighborhoods are now aiming to crowd out the bad with plenty of good programming in the coming year.

They’re planning numerous cleanup and entertainment events, and they’re busy writing grant proposals for park improvements.

Everyone from musicians and theatrical troupes to athletic or sporting goods companies is especially welcome to join in sponsoring performances, games and other outings there, the committee says.

The first volunteer cleanup of the year is set for Jan. 17; contact Colleen Neel at colleenneel@gmail.com to sign up for a two-hour slot that day. Or, learn more and help out with a donation via http://www.gofundme.com/j2216o.
