NROTC SCHOLARSHIP


Nicole Carlson,
a senior at Union High School, has been awarded a $180,000 Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship by the Marine Corps. Carlson plans to major in mechanical engineering and has submitted applications to study at five universities. She is active in the track, soccer and swim teams at Union High and carries a 4.0 grade point average. In addition to the scholarship application showing her academic excellence, community service contributions and leadership, Carlson performed a physical fitness test, scoring 293 out of 300. She was interviewed by Marine Corps officers who selected her as the winner of the Western Region, which includes Alaska and Hawaii. She is the daughter of Rob and Michele Carlson of Vancouver.
