Washougal — After reading “The Giving Tree” recently, third-graders at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School were inspired to give the gift of hope as a holiday project. The kids in Darcy Hickey’s class wrote inspirational notes such as “You are a shooting star” on paper ornaments and hung them on a Christmas tree they delivered Dec. 19 to Prestige Care and Rehabilitation in Camas. “If they are sad or if they have no one to visit them, they can go to the tree and read something to make them happy,” student Leila Tienhaara said of the care center residents in a press release.
