BATTLE GROUND — Starting in January, Battle Ground will have several new routes designated for commercial trucks.
The Battle Ground City Council adopted an ordinance establishing the routes this month. The ordinance goes into effect Jan. 1, and will restrict commercial trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds to certain city streets.
The new restrictions make an exception for trucks used in emergency situations and public works projects. In the case of maintenance or sanitation work, or when trucks are used in medical emergencies, drivers can take the most direct route available to get where they need to go.
The city released a map Tuesday, showing a grid of the roads.
Kay Kramer with the city of Battle Ground said staff are working on putting up a map of the routes on the city’s website.
Scott Sawyer, the city’s public works director, said the routes will cut down on noise and traffic through quiet neighborhoods. They will also reduce wear and tear on residential streets.
