For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.
• Free Clinic of SW Washington is looking for an office assistant to participate in planning, manage the volunteers’ schedules, conduct screenings and orientations, create program materials and provide support to staff and volunteers. The clinic also seeks dental assistants. Dental students are welcome, and training is provided.
• Furry Friends seeks volunteers to help with fundraising, administration and pet showings, and to provide foster care for cats. Licensed vet techs are also needed to provide feline medical care once or twice a month.
• Trauma Intervention Program seeks volunteers to complete training, and then respond to traumatic events at the request of police, fire and hospital personnel, to support those who are emotionally traumatized in the first few hours following a tragedy.
YWCA Clark County will offer training for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers beginning Jan. 8. CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children, ensuring that the children’s needs are recognized and best interests are considered in the courtroom and in the community. CASA volunteers meet with the child regularly and are authorized to interview people in the child’s life such as social workers, attorneys, teachers and family members. They attend court hearings and report their findings to the judge. Currently, there are 161 volunteers representing 357 children in our county child welfare system, and an additional 260 children are without a volunteer assigned to their case.
