The pedestrian struck by a vehicle Tuesday night east of the Westfield Vancouver Mall is in critical condition at an area hospital, according to Vancouver police.

Police have not yet identified the male pedestrian, who did not have any identification on him and remains unconscious, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The man, described as possibly a transient between 35 and 45 years old, stepped into the path of a 2012 Honda Civic that was traveling east just before 6 p.m. on Northeast 94th Avenue near Vancouver Mall Drive, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, cooperated with investigators and showed no signs of impairment, Kapp said.

Though traffic detectives continue to investigate the crash, Kapp said that “it’s not a criminal matter. It was an accident.”

Kapp said that police will continue to monitor the status of the pedestrian and interview him when he wakes up.
