Girls basketball: Union 39, Battle Ground 33

Union outscored visiting Battle Ground 22-3 from the foul line to open 4A Greater St. Helens League play with a victory. Kili Anderson scored 11 points and Katharine Williams 10 to lead the Titans.

Abby Forsyth grabbed 11 rebounds and Sarah Trostle and Courtney Cranston each had nine boards for Union.

Titans coach Kelly Blankenship praised his team’s defensive effort. He said the Titans made it difficult for the Tigers post players to get the ball in scoring positions. He also praised the play of Williams, who was at point guard for the first time because of injuries to teammates.

Battle Ground had six players score at least five points.
