East County — East County Fire & Rescue won First Place in the Washington Fire Commissioner Association’s annual management excellence competition.
ECFR was up against other Washington fire districts with annual budgets between $500,000 and $2 million; ECFR’s fiscal 2013 levy was $1.48 million.
The competition, judged by a panel outside the fire service, evaluates management techniques, innovative programs and accomplishments.
Winners were recently announced at a conference in Spokane, but ECFR did not attend — a cost-saving decision.
ECFR serves a 60-square-mile area to the north and east of Camas and Washougal.
