The shots will fall. The shots will fall. They have to fall.
That was the Prairie philosophy, especially after the first half Tuesday night.
“If you just keep shooting, you know they’re eventually going to go in,” Prairie’s Emily Peters said. “You just have to keep believing.”
Believe it.
Prairie, after a dreadful shooting first half, made five 3-pointers in the third quarter and ran away from Union in a non-league high school girls basketball game.
Peters finished with a game-high 12 points, Cherita Daugherty added 10, and the Falcons dispatched the Titans 53-28.
It was a five-point game at the half before the Falcons, who almost always play strong defense, got their offense in gear, too.
Jamie Phares, Peters, Lindsay Asplund, Deja Gobert and Grace Prom connected from 3-point range in the pivotal third period.
The Falcons were 5 of 31 from the floor in the first half, 2 of 18 from 3-point range.
“We really just needed to relax,” Peters said. “We were tense. We just talked to each other, motivated each other. We just needed to relax and have fun.”
And play defense, too. Prairie held Union to 8-of-42 shooting, 2 of 21 in the second half. The Falcons also forced 26 turnovers.
Abby Forsythe led Union with 10 points.
