The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body found Friday in the Columbia River as that of a Vancouver man.

The office has yet to determine the cause of death for the man, Craig W. Grundmeier, 54, or the manner in which he died, according to a press release issued Monday.

Local agencies recovered a body Friday night from the Columbia River system near Vancouver. The body was spotted in the water near the point where the Willamette River meets the Columbia, Vancouver police Sgt. Mike Davis said last week.

The body was brought to a Vancouver dock, where the Clark County Medical Examiner’s office took custody at about 6:40 p.m. Authorities did not indicate how long the body had been in the water.

The Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crimes Team is investigating the death, which is standard procedure when a body is found near the Washington side of the Columbia, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.
