WASHOUGAL — The Washougal City Council will dig into concerns about oil trains running through the city at a special Tuesday night meeting with officials from BNSF Railway.
The meeting will give the city a chance to address a range of issues related to oil trains, from questions about safety in emergency situations to day-to-day traffic impacts from a rise in the number of oil train’s traveling through Washougal.
Ultimately, the discussion will inform the council as it works toward taking an official stance on the rise of oil trains in Clark County, City Manager David Scott said.
“It’s an opportunity for them to hear directly from BNSF,” Scott said.
The council plans to present a resolution on oil trains in January, Scott said. Joining the councilors at the meeting will be a number of other Southwest Washington officials, including councilors from Camas and Longview and possibly another elected official from Woodland.
The meeting will convene at 5:30 p.m. in the Washburn Auditorium at Washougal High School. The public is welcome to attend but will not have an opportunity to join the discussion.
