RaeAnn Allen heated up in the second half, and the Washougal Panthers pulled away from Mountain View to post their second win of this first week of the girls basketball season.
Allen made 11 of 23 shots from the floor, scoring 23 points in the victory.
“I was feeling it,” said Allen, who had eight of her points in the final minutes of the third quarter after Mountain View had cut the deficit to one point. “My shooting was questionable in the first game. I wanted to turn it into something positive this game. It worked out good for me tonight.”
Alyssa Blankenship added 14 points for the Panthers (2-0). Hailey Briggs scored 11 and Jolynn Wenick added 10.
Briggs had a strong game throughout the stat sheet, grabbing nine rebounds to go along with five steals and four assists.
Christina Lunde led Mountain View with 12 points. Jenna Gulliford added 11. Hailey Hartney had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Thunder (1-1).
Washougal used a 9-0 run in the second quarter to take a 21-15 lead. Then the Panthers scored 11 in a row to make it 31-18. Mountain View, though, responded late in the second quarter and into the third, making it 34-33 at one point.
Then it was all Washougal.
