The Chieftains’ fourth-quarter defense turned a tight game into a comfortable win for Columbia River, which outscored visiting Evergreen 20-4 over the final eight minutes.
Four players scored in double figures and the Chieftains (1-1) had assists on 22 of their 28 field goals. Spencer Long had 15 points and five assists, Andrew Vickers scored 12 points, Joey Bean 11 and Chad Pedigo 10. Pedigo also had five assists and Nathan Hawthorne had a six assits and nine points.
“We really moved the ball well tonight,” Columbia River coach David Long said.
Robert Franks scored 16 points for Evergreen, but spent some of the fourth quarter on the bench because of foul trouble according to Long. Jordan Henderson added 12 points for the Plainsmen.
