Esther Short — A group of local volunteers fed the homeless on Sunday during the monthly Stone Soup Community Meal at Turtle Place Park. The community meals provide hot food, donated by Jo Foody’s Catering Services, as well as needed resources for homeless on the last Sunday of each month in downtown Vancouver. Helpers from the National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation also lent a hand Sunday. However, according to an email from Women’s Coalition, heavy wind that afternoon lifted and broke two large canopies the volunteers had put up. The group is asking the community to make donations so the group can replace the broken canopies and also gather hygiene products to hand out to those in need. Contributions to help the Stone Soup Community Meals can be made to NWCAVE. The next meal is set for 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 28.
