Vancouver police are planning to increase enforcement efforts in and around schools next week.
With the school year kicking off Wednesday for students in the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts, traffic officers will be out in full force to make sure kids and motorists are safe.
Police remind motorists that the speed limit in school zones is 20 mph and that there is no texting or talking on a cellphone while driving.
Crosswalk safety is also an important aspect to the enforcement. Both pedestrians and drivers are asked to obey crosswalk signals and crossing guards.
Other safety advice includes making sure kids are in appropriate car and booster seats. Children under 13 must ride in the back seat when practical. Those traveling by bike, skateboard, scooter and inline skates must wear a helmet.
