Husum — Repainting and other work on the White Salmon Bridge along state Highway 141 will cause delays for about two months starting Sept. 5, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The span carries Highway 141 across the White Salmon River in Husum, about nine miles north of state Highway 14. Temporary stoplights at each end of the bridge and at Oak Ridge Road will guide alternating, one-way traffic during the work, causing delays of up to 10 minutes, according to WSDOT.
Crews with contractor Geronimo Painting Co. will replace expansion joints on the bridge deck, then begin painting. The 74-year-old span was last painted in 1988, and the protective coating on the bridge is deteriorating, according to WSDOT. Exposure to the elements and corrosion can weaken the structure over time, the agency said.
Crews won’t work below the deck of the bridge before Monday, Sept. 22, so river rafters can float under the bridge until the first day of fall.
The work is scheduled to be complete in November, according to WSDOT.
