Ridgefield — Maybe it was the root beer floats, the high school cheerleaders or the raffle prizes: free dinners, massage therapy and a limo ride with Mayor Ron Onslow and his wife.

Maybe it was music by the Hometown Harmony Quartet, Stir Crazy and local bagpiper Scott Richardson.

Or maybe it was keen interest in learning about the Port of Ridgefield’s growth plans and infrastructure investments in things such as roads, sewers and schools.

Whatever drew them, hundreds of people turned out at Overlook Park on Aug. 20 for the port’s annual Ice Cream Social. One purpose of the event was to spread the word about the port’s place in the community and its future.
