Vancouver fighters had a successful evening during a mixed martial arts show on Aug. 16 at in Longview.
Three Vancouver fighters won pro bouts, and three won amateur fights during a Main Events Sports show at the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds Expo Center.
In the headlong fight, Austin Springer of Vancouver defeated Joshua Solis of Sunnyside by technical knockout 2:15 into the second round of their Main Event Sorts lightweight championship bout. Springer is now 8-0 and owns the promotion’s bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight championship belt.
In the co-main event, Vancouver’s Jason Novelli defeated Dom Gutierrez 3:55 into the first round in a 155-pound fight.
In another pro bout, Ricky Simon of Vancouver defeated John Martinez of Yakima by technical knockout 2:50 into their 140-pound fight. Simon is now 12-0 in professional and amateur MMA fights.
Vancouver fighters who won amateur bouts during the show were Lisa Spangler, Ivo Wallace and Dave Robison.

Girlfriends race registration open
Registration is open for the eighth Girlfriends Run for the Cure, which takes place on Oct. 12 in downtown Vancouver.
The year’s event includes a 13.1-mile half marathon course and a 6.55-mile quarter marathon. This is a women-only walk and run to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, but there are volunteer opportunities and other ways for men to contribute, and there is a special race for kids.

According to event founder and organizer Sherri McMillan, the Girlfriends races raised almost $300,000 in the first seven years.
Summer running series nears finish
Oscar Bauman beat Jesse McChesney by three seconds to win the Clark County running Club’s Marine Park 5K race on Wednesday.
Bauman, 41, completed the 3.1-mile run in 15 minutes and 19 seconds.
Katrina Mueller, 22, of Vancouver was the first female finisher. Her time was 19:39, good for 12th overall among 103 finishers.
The final race in the CCRC’s series of Wednesday summer runs follows the same course this week. The race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Marine Park. Participants should arrive at least 20 minutes before the start. Cost to participate is $3.
