WSU Clark County Extension offers prediabetes prevention course

Washington State University Clark County Extension is offering a 16-week prevention course for people with prediabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition in which a person has a blood-sugar level higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The program is designed to help people reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes, lose weight and become more physically active.

The 16-week program is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 3, at The Heritage Farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St.; or 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Sept. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 309 W. 39th St.

The fee varies based on insurance coverage, income, use of flexible spending accounts and scholarships.

Session topics range from tipping the calorie balance to healthy eating and staying motivated. The program includes 16 weekly lifestyle sessions, eight monthly maintenance session, private weekly weigh-ins, problem solving and group support.
