Jeanne Stewart announced Wednesday she will pause her campaign for county commissioner after her husband died this week.

David Stewart died Tuesday of complications from heart surgery, according to Steven J. Nelson, a family spokesman. It was David Stewart’s 71st birthday.

The Stewarts were married for 40 years, Nelson said.

Nelson said Stewart “remains committed to run for county commissioner.” The Republican faces Democrat Craig Pridemore for a seat currently held by Democrat Ed Barnes, who did not file for election.

Nelson said funeral arrangements for David Stewart will be announced later.
