A federal judge has ordered the Corps of Engineers to release documents about a planned coal terminal on the Columbia River at Boardman, Ore.
Columbia Riverkeeper wanted to know why the Corps agreed to an easier environmental review for Ambre Energy’s terminal than two others in Washington state.
The Oregonian reported the Corps withheld more than 300 pages and Riverkeeper sued to get them.
Judge Paul Papak ordered their release Thursday, saying the agency failed to back up claims the documents should be exempt from disclosure. No deadline was set for releasing the documents.
The proposed terminal would receive coal on trains from the Powder River Basin in the Northern Rockies. The coal would be barged down the Columbia River to a port for export to Asia.
