Pioneer Street closures coming up this month in Ridgefield

Part of the main road from Interstate 5 to downtown Ridgefield will close for overnight construction the next two weekends.

State Route 501, also called Pioneer Street, will be shut down between North 45th Avenue and South 56th Place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday through Sunday and again during those times from Aug. 22 to 24. The road will also be reduced to one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Aug. 18 through 22.

The closure will allow the Clark Regional Water District to finish building the first phase of its Discover Corridor Wastewater Transmission System.

Construction is set to wrap up in 2016 as crews finish a new pipeline running from the I-5 junction in Ridgefield to the Salmon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. City officials see the pipeline as a major draw for new businesses in the coming years.

During the closures, I-5 Exit 14 will remain open, and the businesses located in the junction area will still be accessible. Those looking to get to downtown from I-5 are encouraged to take Exit 16 and follow a detour along Northwest 31st Avenue and North 45th Avenue to Pioneer Street.
