Battle Ground — Groundbreaking for a new Veterans Memorial in Kiwanis Park is planned for March 2015, but plenty of help is still needed.

The memorial will be a plaza with benches and a wall featuring the names of 27 local veterans who died in service to their country.

Money and donations of in-kind services and materials are most welcome, and there are two fun, social fundraising events coming up. One is a Girls’ Night Out Bunco Party, including a light dinner and a no-host wine bar, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Battle Ground Community Center; tickets are $20 at the door.

The other is a flea market, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Fairgrounds Park in Ridgefield on Aug. 23; sellers’ $20 registration fees will all go to the memorial project.

For more information about the project and how you can help, contact visit cityofbg.org/veteransmemorial or contact Parks & Recreation director Debbi Hanson at 360-342-5004.
