A transient man accused of stealing a vehicle and then eluding police Thursday appeared in court Friday.

Judge Robert Lewis found probable cause for charges of residential burglary and second-degree auto theft against Kim Keichiro Karuo, a 22-year-old transient.

According to Vancouver police, Karuo first broke into a residence Thursday morning and stole a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. Around 8:22 a.m., motorists on state Highway 500 reported a vehicle driving erratically and when police caught up to the Elantra, it eluded officers.

Police said the Elantra crashed with another vehicle before law enforcement blocked it into a McDonald’s parking lot at 2814 N.E. Andresen Rd. No one was injured.

Karuo was in custody in lieu of $40,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 8.
