A Battle Ground man driving a log truck was cited after a Friday morning crash on Interstate 5 south of Napavine in Lewis County.

Donald Wiebold, 23, was driving a 1991 GMC log truck with an empty trailer south on I-5 in the center lane and moved into the right lane, striking a 1993 Lexus GS3, according to Washington State Patrol.

The Lexus then struck the guardrail, injuring the driver, Veronica Maestas, 39, and her passenger, Priscella Maestas, 20, both of Mount Vernon. Both were taken to a hospital. A second passenger, a man who was not identified, fled from the scene.

“We have no idea why he ran,” state patrol spokesman Will Finn said. “We have no reason to speak with him, there is no crime involved … if he is injured, we hope he seeks medical treatment.”

Wiebold was cited for making an unsafe lane change.
