Even though temperatures today are predicted to reach the high 80s, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that the water in lakes and rivers can still be dangerously cold.
The law enforcement agency cautions boaters, swimmers and other water enthusiasts that the conditions could result in cold water immersion and hypothermia, which can happen in waters as warm as 77 degrees.
The Columbia River is currently 50 degrees and other area waterways are just as cold, according to the sheriff’s office
The sheriff’s office asks that those planning to use waterways today wear a life jacket and if an emergency does arise, don’t panic and call for help. Never exceed your swimming abilities, never swim alone and watch your children.
