Susan G. Komen Oregon & Southwest Washington is kicked off its 2014 Race for the Cure with a celebration May 1.

This year’s Race for the Cure takes place Sunday, Sept. 21 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland. Thousands will participate in an effort to raise $2.5 million to fight breast cancer.

The event will offer a 5K fun run, 5K fun walk, 1 mile family walk and Sleep-in for the Cure, which allows participants to raise money but stay in bed on race day.

During the month of May, participants can sign up at a discounted rate — $10 off the regular entry fee.
