Spring chinook catches have improved as expected at the mouth of Wind River and in Drano Lake in the Columbia Gorge.
State samplers checked about a chinook per five rods at the mouth of the Wind and a salmon per six rods at Drano.
Anglers with the two-pole endorsement may fish with two rods starting today, plus the boat-limit rule applies at both Wind River and Drano Lake.
Rowland Lake east of Bingen produced best among the five Southwest Washington waters that opened for the season on Saturday.
Battle Ground Lake has been planted with 1,500 rainbow trout and Klineline Pond received 2,000 brown trout last week.

Wind — One-hundred-ninety-one boaters with 41 adult spring chinook kept and four released. In the gorge, four bank rods with one adult spring chinook kept. (WDFW)
Drano Lake — Two-hundred boaters with 33 adult spring chinook kept; 22 bank rods with three adult spring chinook kept. (WDFW)
Klickitat — Seventeen bank rods with two adult spring chinook and one steelhead kept plus one adult spring chinook released. (WDFW)
Cowlitz — Seventy-four boaters with nine adult spring chinook, six jack chinook and 14 steelhead kept plus one steelhead released; 113 bank rods with 15 adult spring chinook. six jack chinook and 10 steelhead kept plus one adult chinook and one steelhead released.(WDFW)
Kalama — Nine bank rods with two steelhead released; six boaters with two spring chinook and five steelhead released. Spring chinook retention is closed in the Kalama.
Mid-Columbia — The Dalles pool, 22 boaters with four spring chinook kept; 69 bank rods with seven spring chinook kept and four released; eight bank rods with four sublegal sturgeon released. (WDFW)
John Day pool, 61 boaters with five spring chinook kept and four released; 83 bank rods with 10 spring chinook kept and seven released; seven boaters with one oversize and four sublegal sturgeon released; six bank rods with one legal sturgeon kept; seven boaters with two walleye kept and six released; seven boaters with 43 bass released.
Kidney Lake — Forty anglers with 85 fish kept and 20 released. (WDFW)
Rowland Lake — Seventy-one anglers with 200 fish kept and 314 released. About 20 percent of the kept catch was a triploid (large) or broodstock (very large) rainbow trout. (WDFW)
