Maritime training

CALIFORNIA MARITIME ACADEMY, VALLEJO, CALIF.

Alec Bittner was named to the fall 2013 dean’s list. He recently embarked on a two-month training cruise aboard the university’s 500-foot vessel, The Golden Bear, with ports of call in Hawaii, South Korea, Vietnam and the Marshall Islands. Bittner is a 2013 graduate of Skyview High School.

On campus

EMPORIA (KAN.) STATE UNIVERSITY

Shiree Bent of Vancouver has received a Laurence C. Boylan Thesis Award for the 2013-14 academic year. Bent is a graduate student in English, modern languages and journalism.

MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY

Sara Ashback of Ridgefield has been awarded a $3,000 Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. She is a freshman, pursuing a degree in civil engineering.

OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY, CORVALLIS

EMMY AWARD NOMINATIONS

Vancouver Public Schools’ educational shows “Famous Scientist — Johannes Kepler” and “Science, Tech Day Challenge,” produced by Nick Voll, television production supervisor; Ian Southworth, video production specialist; and Nate Macon, producer, were nominated for two 2014 Northwest Emmy Awards. Winners will be announced at an awards banquet June 7 in Seattle.
