A celebration marking the end of a Vancouver man’s marriage was put on hold in Fond du Lac, Wisc., last week.

Former Fond du Lac resident James Snell, 49, was arrested following an early morning traffic stop. He was charged with drunk driving during an initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.

Snell told police that he traveled to Fond du Lac to finalize the divorce with his ex-wife and had a few drinks afterward to celebrate, according to police reports.

Snell registered a 0.18 percent blood alcohol concentration, well over the threshold for drivers with four or more drunk driving convictions.

Snell was convicted of drunk driving in 1996, 1999, 2001, 2006 and 2008, according to the reports.

Snell is free on a $1,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is set for May 30.
