The roof of a Mexican restaurant in Hazel Dell sustained minor damage after a string of lights shorted and caused a small fire Monday night, according to Clark County Fire District 6.

Witnesses spotted the flames just minutes after 11 p.m. at El Tapatio, 6202 N.E. Highway 99. Those witnesses spotted the fire from a 7-Eleven near the restaurant.

Firefighters quickly arrived and took about 10 minutes to put out the fire.

There was minimal damage to the roof, which was “just enough to be a nuisance,” battalion chief Larry Reese said.

El Tapatio wasn’t open at the time, Reese said, so no evacuation was necessary.

The Vancouver Fire Department assisted at the scene.
